Los Angeles CA………………………………. The Philanthropy Project has just announced that Olive Gallagher, a Screenwriting Fellow at the American Film Institute, syndicated columnist of The Inner Bottom Line® and author of The Nude Ethicist: A Simple Path to The Good Life™ is one of the winners of the first-ever annual Filmanthropy Scholarship Competition for her film, “Best Friends.”

“From the moment this competition was announced, I knew, without a doubt, exactly what this film would say," Gallagher explained. "Best Friends, and the needs and welfare of animals everywhere is a subject very close to my heart and a large part of who I am as a person on this planet."

“The courageous, compassionate and innovative devotion and effort that the entire Best Friends family displays every day of the year," Gallagher continued, "is a gift and an inspirational example for us all.

Gallagher’s film, while only two minutes in length, immediately grabs the viewer and touches the heart.

“If this little film changes only one mind…and convinces just one person to open their heart and rescue one animal from a shelter or treat all animals with more kindness and respect, then it will have accomplished what I intended.”

Gallagher began her MFA at AFI last August.  This short film was the first film that Gallagher solely created, wrote, narrated, directed and produced.

Prior to founding and becoming CEO of Personal Best® in 1985, Gallagher had a productive and long performance career in the entertainment industry as an actor, singer and ASCAP songwriter.  She returned to acting in feature films in 2004 and in August 2007 began her two-year course of graduate study at AFI.

“My initial sense of honor and privilege at being included in the incoming Fellows at AFI has only grown and been enriched by my experiences during this first year,” Gallagher added.  “I continue to be thrilled at the challenge.”

In the past three years, Gallagher has appeared in Astronaut Farmer (Warners), In From The Night (Hallmark), North Country (Warners), Trade (Lionsgate), In Plain Sight (NBC) and most recently Sunshine Cleaning

She also appeared in the female principal role of Wanda McCray in the short indie film, “A Piece of Pie,” that won raves and the Governors Cup Award at the Santa Fe Film Festival in December 2006.  The film was also awarded Best Short Film at the Los Angeles International Film Festival in February 2007.

Gallagher has just completed her first feature screenplay, “Moonlight Man,” a coming of age drama, and has recenlty signed with Kristene Wallis of The Wallis Agency in Los Angeles for theatrical and commercial representation.
